DIYS in THE COMMUNITY

Here are a few ways that Deer Isle Yoga Studio is present on our Island. All love.

POST OFFICE YOGA!

This community event, which takes place on occasional summer afternoons in the DI Village parking lot at the Post Office, is open to all. DIYS provides mats and props - you provide enthusiasm and willingness to have some fun! Free - but if you’d like to make a donation, I’ll happily send it across the street to our Deer Isle Library.

Check out the schedule for times/dates.

Iyengar yoga for addiction recovery (IFAR)

IYFAR gatherings include basic yoga postures and breathing techniques, and incorporate yogic and 12-step philosophies into a physical and spiritual practice that is accessible to all people drawn to explore spiritual recovery from addiction. No previous yoga experience is required, no need to be “in recovery” to attend.

Classes are suitable for all ages and abilities.

In 2011, a few months after I got sober, I starting teaching yoga for people like me – alcoholics and drug addicts trying to recover. My own experience in recovery is that the spiritual practice of yoga helps purify the body and release the mind, helping to establish a new life of stability and purpose.

Anything is possible.

Free, but donations are gratefully accepted as a way to help cover expenses and make it possible to continue offering this and other DIYS community classes. Thank you!

DIYS in THE SCHOOLS

Here is how Deer Isle Yoga Studio is working with island kids. All love.

Mariners Soar After school!

It’s an honor to be with the next generation of island yogis as a volunteer for the Mariners Soar! Afterschool Program. Deer Isle-Stonington school kids choose between a variety of rich afterschool programs - some of them elect to come to DIYS once a week. It’s a blast!

DI-SHS Project launch / Career day

Totally fun to hang out with DISH students each year at Project Launch’s Career Day - not only to practice some yoga, but to talk about what it means to run a small business here. There are so many smart and talented friends and neighbors working to help island kids look ahead to a bright future. Yay.
