Deer Isle Yoga Studio teaches Iyengar Yoga, a system that develops inner awareness through physical posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The method is rooted in the ancient ashtanga (eight-limbed) philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a set of aphorisms that frame a way of being in the world that is practical, experiential, devotional and personal. Only the world’s most knowledgeable, rigorously trained teachers earn Iyengar Yoga Certification. ABOUT liz Leuthner

Liz has been practicing and teaching yoga since 2010. She is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), having been drawn to the intelligence of Iyengar yoga, the powerful sense of freedom and responsibility, and the relative stillness of mind that develops with practice. Her classes are equal parts steadiness and lightheartedness.

The Iyengar method emphasizes dedicated practice as a path to personal transformation. As a practitioner, Liz’s own experience is that the spiritual practice of yoga helps purify the body and release the mind, opening the heart to a new sense of freedom and responsibility. Deer Isle Yoga Studio is founded on the philosophy that when we let go of old ideas, try something new, and have some fun, anything is possible.

Liz is also certified as a Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. IAYT advances yoga therapy education, training, and research, and supports the professional development of its members. IAYT recognizes the rigorous training of Iyengar Yoga Teachers and our aligned efforts to make available the healing art and science of yoga to all people.
